Great menu options along with a great staff.
Locally owned ~ Americana greasy spoon Grits and Catfish are on the menuTreat yourself to an ethnic old southern style breakfast here in beautiful Altadena.
If you are looking for a wonderful Southern "sitting at the counter" dining experience, this is it, especially if Mrs. Miller is serving you.
First time here having breakfast, staff is friendly, down to earth. Food I awesome, Home cooked style. I love it and now I will be coming back!!
Great food. Really like the French toast and turkey sausage. Good, homemade food! I will be returning. 😃🙌👍
Great food. Good atmosphere. Come early to find seating. Is small and quaint.
The food here was good. The people were personable, but it took over an hour for my his and and I to get our breakfast. They cook one order at a time. It's worth it if you have the time, but we didn't. We stayed and it threw off our day a bit...But like I said, the food was good once we got it.
Yummy food, cozy atmosphere and amazing service. Sabrina their server makes you feel right at home.
Amazing old fashioned place... its basically a diner w really good breakfast made by people there for 42 years!!! They have lunch and dinner too but my breakfast was great.Don't hesitate to check them out SERIOUSLY! !!
Delicious, filling, great size portion and great atmosphere.
Authentic sloooooooooooooooow food. Quality takes time. And time it takes at this unpretentious spot. The servers are all super nice. This is what a southern breakfast spot should be. Love this place.
I visit this spot a lot since I work nearby. I have to say their customer service is always great and they keep the spot neat regularly. Pricing is fair and they serve large portions.
I do not know how this place has the ratings that is does. I live 5 mins away and decided to try this place at a "slow" time. We walked in and needed three seats together. The table that seats 4 was vacant and filled with dirty plates. We patiently waited for someone to help us but no one ever did. Two of us waited 10 minutes for the third person to arrive. The entire time the lady behind the counter never greeted us and instead starred us down whenever we made eye contact.Five minutes after the third person arrived, one of the other guests was so sweet that he told the mean lady "I think the girls want the big table." The mean lady starred him down and said "I know, but taking care of this now" as she walked away. Still no contact with us.So, after 15 minutes of rude treatment we left with a bad taste and vowed never to return. Hopefully that lady is the owner, otherwise I feel bad for the owner for having such a terrible employee or family member.
Good but slow. If you are expecting a fast meal, you will need to wait.
Nice yummmmy waffles and chicken
This is an old fashioned owner operated coffee shop. The sign near the grill says, "No Fast Food". If you're in a rush this is not the place to go and eat. It's a small neighborhood coffee shop that serves decent food at a decent price. I ordered the SOS and it was good and very filling. The waitress was a very very sweat middle aged lady. The cook kept to his word about the food not being fast, but it was good. They have two tables and the rest is counter seating.
Kool atmosphere, great food ,friends service!
Fun place. Old diner motif, good food, great staff. Allow some time -- not a fast food place, but a cook-to-order restaurant.
The food was great stick-to-your-ribs meal.
Un professional staff. Wait over 1 hour to pick the food. They dont even know how to talk
Felt like I was at a great family home.
They make everything fresh and on the order with only a couple people on staff. The food is great, coffee strong, and the regulars are friendly. They have signs that let you know it’s not a fast food place and it’s no Denny’s. Everything I’ve had tastes like home. I love this place, I plan to come back more often.
Amazing! So delicious! Sabrina took such good care of me!
Cozy cafe. Great food. Great service.
Food was great!!!
One of thee BEST PLACES TO EAT. Real food. Real Cooking! The pancakes are so delicious and golden brown, juss the way my Daddy made em when I was a wee little girl! Bacon looks like it should be in a magazine! Spa water before it was a thing, and the grits are just right! With all the seasonings and fixings you could ask for! My fave place!
Good food if you won't mind waiting over an hour to eat. Came in and sat down (there was 3 other people there), waited 20 minutes to get asked if we wanted a drink. Got said drink 20 minutes after that. Finally got our food (breakfast sandwich and French toast) after being there for an hour and fifteen minutes... Food was good, very nastalgic atmosphere but don't go if you have anything else planned that day
Best darn Shrimp and Grits in Pasadena! The has her own special blend of herbs and spices that will make you slap your Mama!
Hospitality. Good music. Friendly genuine home feel every time.
Good food and good people. Not the kind of place for a rush, but then again, why would you rush through here?
I've been going here since I was a little child, my mother would take me. I now take my daughter and we sit in the same spot where my mother and I set as a child. The food is great but after eating it's sleepy time.
I know it's a matter of taste but...a little too greasy and sloppy for me. Service is friendly but erratic, slow and incomplete. But it's still a favorite for some folks..
I had the succulent shrimp and grits, a fried egg and biscuits so yummy
Honestly you could not pay me to come here again. Most of these five star ratings seem totally off.
ALWAYS great food worth the wait and worth the trip for whatever comes out of that kitchen! Never know who you'll meet but they gonna help you out somehow...clean and fresh good food!!
Great place to eat I especially like thier waitress Jovon.
Chef Barbara has the mad skills.
Very small, intimate setting. Excellent breakfast food. But what makes this llace special is the hospitality. That the owners know and love their community is evident in the way they treat each guest. If you want to have privacy this is not for you...expect to strike up conversation with strangers.
Salty and greasy.. heart attack waiting to happen... Cool little hole in wall spot.. food takes forever to be served with a side of attitude.. especially if you're not the same race.. I got comments from the people there that El torito was the other way... Pure ignorance at it's highest..
The Little Red Hen is a boutique breakfast / brunch locale with attitude and vibrant taste. Fresh home grown lemon and mint in the water. Omlettes, Pancakes, Salmon Croquettes, Grits, Biscuits, Hash Browns, and other specialities were all excellent.
The food has been very good. I called in all my orders. I have never sat and ate there. They take credit and debit cards now, but you have to pay a $2 fee, so it is better to bring cash so you can tip the help better.
I enjoy coming to eat here . theybserve southern food and that's one of my favorites💚. They also have great tasting breakfast.
Food is so good I'll give it a A
My favorite breakfast spot in Pasadena/Altadena and a classic little cafe. One of the best things about the area is there are still mom and pop places that seem to have been there forever and not overrun by "progress." Don't be in a rush and I see many comments about the slow service but I think its part of the charm. Bring a newspaper along to read while you're waiting. You've got the regulars that sit in the same place at the counter every time. My favorite story from the place was from about 20 years back when a customer called out asking if they had any Red Rooster hot sauce. The elderly gentleman sitting next to me, one of the regulars, said to no one in particular, "Well, if this is the Little Red Hen, then there's a red rooster around here somewhere."
Went there years ago when I lived in Altadena & it was excellent then. Glad to see it has not lost it's charm and good, good food! Can't wait to visit again on my tour to my old stomping grounds!
originally authentic from top to bottom. if u r lookin 4 a cozy & personal experience w/kind, friendly ppl & the best food dining out has to offer, stop by this place & try some blueberry french toast or the pork sausage patty! #foodporn
Great home tasting food. I mostly go for breakfast
The food is amazing the service was even better.
Good food, family chain, black owned in Pasadena. Say less
The food is absolutely great! The customer service as well as the chef is A+ service
